Why
Bananas provide potassium, fiber and vitamins and are soft and easy to eat. They're high in sugar and calories, though, so too much can add weight and cause constipation or diarrhea. The peel isn't toxic but is hard to digest and can cause a blockage. Cats don't need it, but a bit is fine.
How to give it / if eaten
Peel and slice into thin rounds. One or two slices for cats and small dogs and up to half a banana for large dogs is enough, within 10% of daily calories. Frozen slices make a nice summer treat.
Watch for these signs
Too much can cause constipation, diarrhea or gas, and frequent feeding adds weight. If the peel was eaten, watch for vomiting or constipation.
