Why

Cucumbers are about 95% water and very low in calories, making them a great treat for dogs watching their weight. Large chunks can be a choking hazard, and too much can loosen stools. Pickles and Korean pickled or stuffed cucumbers contain salt, vinegar, garlic and green onion, so don't share those.

How to give it / if eaten

Wash and slice thinly or dice small. A few pieces for cats and small dogs, a few more for large dogs, keeping treats under 10% of daily calories, with no seasoning.

Watch for these signs

Too much can cause loose stool, diarrhea or frequent urination. A large piece can cause gagging.

FAQ

Can I leave the peel on cucumber?

Well-washed peel is fine. For sensitive stomachs, peeling makes it easier to digest.

Are pickles or oiji okay?

Pickled cucumbers are salty and may contain garlic or spices, so don't. Stick to fresh cucumber.
