Why
Cat grass is usually young oat, barley or wheat sprouts and isn't toxic. Why cats chew grass isn't certain; theories include helping pass hairballs, adding fiber or simply liking it. Offering it can steer indoor cats away from toxic houseplants. Eating a lot can lead to vomiting, and long, coarse blades can rarely lodge in the throat or behind the nose.
How to give it / if eaten
Grow it from a pet seed kit or buy a ready pot. Trim it when the blades get long and toss it if mold appears. Don't offer garden grass treated with pesticides or fertilizer.
Watch for these signs
Eating a lot may lead to vomiting with grass in it. A stuck blade can cause sneezing, gagging or a runny nostril on one side. Call your vet if vomiting continues.
