Why
Why macadamias are toxic is still unknown, but dogs commonly develop weakness and tremors within 12 hours of eating them. Most recover in 1โ2 days, but chocolate-covered nuts or cookies add chocolate poisoning on top, which is far more serious. There are almost no reports in cats, so the risk is unknown and avoidance is the safe choice.
How to give it / if eaten
Contact your vet or an emergency clinic as soon as you know. Tell them how many nuts, whether chocolate or raisins were involved, and when it happened. Don't induce vomiting at home without a vet's instruction.
Watch for these signs
Within 12 hours: hind-leg weakness or inability to stand, wobbling, tremors, vomiting, fever and lethargy.
