Why
Eggs are packed with quality protein, vitamins and minerals, and cooking removes the bacterial risk and biotin issue of raw eggs. The yolk does carry fat and calories, so too many can add weight, and some pets are allergic to eggs.
How to give it / if eaten
Hard-boil or scramble without oil, salt or butter, cool and chop. Start with a quarter to half an egg a day for cats and small dogs and no more than one for large dogs, keeping treats under 10% of daily calories.
Watch for these signs
Too much can cause gas, loose stool or vomiting. Egg allergy shows as itching, licking ears or paws, red skin or diarrhea.
FAQ
How many boiled eggs can my dog have a day?
It depends on size, but about half an egg or less for small dogs and up to one for large dogs is a reasonable treat. If you give eggs daily, cut the main meal slightly.
Can cats eat boiled eggs?
Yes. Fully cooked egg is a good protein treat for cats too. Chop it small and give just a little.
