Leopard geckos: house together or keep alone?

Background

Leopard geckos are fairly docile, and some keepers house females together in a spacious enclosure and enjoy watching a little group. Many others note that the species is naturally solitary, and cohabiting can mean competition for food and hides, stress or injuries, so one per enclosure is the standard advice. Everyone agrees males must never share.
