Is grain-free food really better for cats?

Background

Because cats are obligate carnivores, many owners choose grain-free foods with more animal protein, hoping for better digestion and fewer allergies. Plenty of vets counter that there is little evidence grains are harmful, and a well-balanced regular food works perfectly well. Watching how your own cat responds may matter more than the label.
